WILMINGTON, NC --- Lifelong resident of New Hanover County and local real estate agent Clayton Hamerski filed yesterday to run for Register of Deeds in 2020.
“I believe there are many ways we can improve the office for all who use it. I have the leadership experience, skills, and education needed to help bring the office into the 21st century,” Hamerski said on his campaign website.
Clayton is very involved in the local community, currently serving on the boards of the Cape Fear Economic Development Council, the New Hanover County Cooperative Extension Advisory Council, the Martin Luther King Celebration Committee of Southeastern NC, and the Cape Fear Realtors Community Affairs Committee. Hamerski is also a former board member for the New Hanover County Democratic Party and immediate past president of the Young Democrats of New Hanover County.
Hamerski hopes to use his leadership experience in the public and nonprofit sectors to help ensure a more efficient and accessible Register of Deeds.
Hamerski is a graduate of Cape Fear Community College and UNCW, holding a B.A. in Political Science and Government with a minor in Public Administration. After college he worked as the Finance Director for US Congressional candidate Dr. Kyle Horton.
Clayton held his campaign kickoff Monday night and was encouraged by the crowd of both Democrats and Republicans, local elected officials, and many attendees familiar with the office of the Register of Deeds.
In the coming months, Clayton hopes to hear from community members to learn about the issues important to them and ensure their voices are being heard.
